Sydney Talks is an independent guide telling you where to find the most interesting public talks and debates in Sydney. We feature events across a number of topics, including politics, science, history and the Arts.
How are events selected for Sydney Talks?
Events are chosen for Sydney Talks on the basis they sound interesting, challenging or amusing. Occasionally we will list a 'wild card' event to give you a flavour of the more bizarre offerings available.
Who is behind Sydney Talks?
SydneyTalks was established in 2004 by Georgie Vestey and Jane Madgwick. In July 2008 the online guide was handed over to Christine Maher and Sally Stock, who continue the service in the tradition established by Jane and Georgie.
Christine has had a life long interest in the power of speech to communicate ideas and build communities and is the founder of Celebrity Speakers.
Sally worked closely with Christine managing Celebrity Speakers for over a decade and continues her interest in issues and ideas as well as working for voluntary groups.
How is Sydney Talks funded?
Sydney Talks is funded by Christine and Sally so it continues to be a truly independent service.
