Chopin and His Legacy in France  
Chopin, who lived only to the age of 39, would be 200 this year. Having composed no symphonies and no operas, even a generation ago he was deemed barely respectable in some academic circles. Roy Howat takes up the musical evidence, including the case put by Chopin's 'grand-pupil' Paul Dukas.
